Katie's Train Set Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

katiegremlin: As I have limited time to maintain my caches, I have decided to archive this (and my other local caches), giving others the chance to place new caches in the locality.

I will remove the container within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for all of the visits and logs.

Geocache Description:

Superted's recent (2008) new cache, Walk to Work, almost had an implied plea for more straightforward caches, so I thought I'd hide one. The location I've chosen is Wainbody Wood, which I used to be able to walk to from home. The route took me through the grounds of Ullathorne School, walking parallel to the Coventry-Leamington railway line. That was until security fences were built around schools.

Wainbody Wood is a small, but pleasant area, adjacent to the Kenilworth Road. This old, mixed woodland was originally part of the Stoneleigh estate owned by Lord Leigh. It is about 70 acres, though more than half of this lies inaccessible across the railway line. In 1994, a 300m path was constructed suitable for wheelchair users (though the cache is not close to this path).

Use of the railway, built in 1884, has expanded recently with doubling of the track between the wood and Coventry station.

The cache is hidden very close to the track, affording views of passing trains. It is a small lock & lock container, with the usual collection of small goodies.

Parking is available in a small cul-de-sac called The Spinney, though there are some parking restrictions - please be considerate to local residents.
