Geocache Description:

The Erie Street Cemetery is one of Cleveland's oldest. East 9th st. was formally called Erie St. The oldest grave is that of Rebecca Carter, daughter of Lorenzo Carter. She died in 1803. There is a marker near the 9th St. entrance. She was moved here from the city's first burial ground after this one opened in 1825. The first burial here was Minerva White in 1827.
The fence surrounding the cemetery is made of sandstone taken from the demolished Superior Ave. Viaduct. See Mitch views a viaduct
The cemetery is 8.8 acres and there are almost 18,000 persons here. Yeah, there aren't that many markers. I found one from the 1970s.
Take a few minutes and walk around. These are Cleveland's first settlers.
There is also an entrance on East 14th.

I found this interesting side note. "In the 1920s, the cemetery was thought to be a meeting place for thieves and other unsavory types." History is interesting.

TruthTrack was FTF. Congratulations!
