Geocache Description:

"Q" is for "Quentin", Quentin Claiborne Crommelin *** NOTE *** this cache was a nano on the last stage, it is now a small cache with room for small items. Bring the kids, great monument at the last stage. Hide it back well please.

Quentin Claiborne Crommelin was the last surviving of the five famous brothers from the Wetumpka Area, passing away in 1997.

Born of a pioneer Alabama family in Montgomery and Wetumpka, they were the only five brothers ever to graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy. Four of them became aviators. Individually and as a fighting family, they gained fame in World War II, attaining outstanding combat records and multiple decorations. Richard and Charles died in combat. John and Quentin continued distinguished naval careers until retirement. Several books have been written about them. In 1981, the Navy launched the U.S.S. Crommelin (FFG37) in honor of the four aviators and their brother, Vice Admiral Henry Crommelin.

Richard, Charles, John and Quentin are all members of the Alabama Aviation Hall of Fame. There is a monument to them in both Wetumpka, near Crommelin landing and in Mobile, at Battleship Park.

At Stage One you are in the middle of whats left. At one time the Crommelins owned most of Wetumpka. Through the years, the land has been sold off in the name of progress. You will need to retrieve the cords from stage one to get to stage two. Once there, simply follow the path.

Congrats to OHail on the FTF!!
