Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE COORDINATES POSTED ABOVE...

BE ADVISED: THE PARK IS OPEN AT 8AM AND CLOSES AT DUSK.

Salute to Geometrics is, yes, a geometry puzzle.

For some reason I find that the study of geometry doesn’t play a very big role in my life (imagine that, I was a math minor). Although math bored me for the most part, I found this part of mathematics somewhat interesting because it’s all relative in a physical manner. It wasn’t just theories and formulas that involved numbers and unknowns, but something you could picture. Nova is doing quite well in math, and because this is our first cache, this is my salute to her too.

While there are many ways to solve this puzzle, as with most mathematical problems, a little background in geometry should make this one pretty simple. All you have to do is solve for the side adjacent to the 30° angle (X) for the first set of coordinates and the hypotenuse (C) for the second set. I had to do a little refreshing to put this together, but with a little research, even a math novice can figure it out.

Use a calculator that can compute square roots and round up your final answers. Once you have the coordinates you’ll find this one a quick park-n-grab, if the gate is open. Otherwise it's a little hike :)

AGAIN, BE ADVISED: THE PARK IS OPEN AT 8AM AND CLOSES AT DUSK.

If you bring your dog, bring a leash. Sometimes it floods a little in the winter and more in the spring, so bring boots.

Congratulations to DeRock and the Psychic Cacher, FTF Premium member. You deserve our admiration as there must be a lot of snow out there right now and you didn't fall into the river. Congrats to RatTrak too for solving the puzzle and getting someone else to brave the elements.

Congratulations to g-units (sorry about the confusion) for FTF regular! We were wondering if anyone else was up to the challenge and are very happy they were. Soon we will have a bonus to this one coming out and it's my wish that who ever makes the drive will see the Bald Eagle I've seen several times flying along the river, it's absolutely beautiful!
