Geocache Description:

This cache involves a hike to the peak of an unnamed mountain visible to all those who have crossed the Anthony Gap. It offers views of Hitt Canyon just below as well as both of Anthony's noses and a westerly view as far as the eye can see. The hike is about 1.5 miles round trip with an elevation gain of ~800 feet.

To get to this cache, take the NM404 exit off of I-10 and head East. After about 4.3 miles enter the gate to the right (south). PLEASE CLOSE THE GATE BEHIND YOU. Drive for about .3 miles to the first or second parking lot. (A passenger car should be able to make this short off-road drive.) Start your hike by following the old road which will lead you to the base of the mountain. From there on, there is no trail so just choose your route up. Halfway through your ascent you'll cross the state line into Texas. The cache is an ammo can hidden just off the summit.

If you have time, there's a really cool cave near the small peak to the east of this peak. It's an easy hike to the cave by following the trail that ascends the canyon between the two peaks. The coordinates for the cave are N 31° 59.888 W 106° 30.612.

This cache is located within the boundaries of the Franklin Mountains State Park and there is an entrance fee of $4.00 per adult. (Children under 13 are free.) The cache was approved by the Cesar Mendez, Park Superintendent (Franklin Mountains State Park).
