Geocache Description:


Sewell Stockade was built in the late 1860's and was later known as the Pond Creek Ranch House.
For nearly a quarter of a century prior to the opening of the Cherokee Outlet this ranch stood as a haven and watering station for weary cattle drivers and travelers on the Chisholm Trail. It also served as protection from Indian raiding parties.
A monument was erected in honor of the Stockade in 1937 and is a WPA Historical Marker.
Another WPA Historical Marker is across the road south on a small hill over the grave of two cowboys who died during Indian raids.
