Geocache Description:

One of the jewels of the cassowary coast is the settlement of Mission Beach. This area has quickly become a mecca for tourists wishing to experience what the Great Barrier Reef and the Australian Tropical Rainforests have to offer. This area is home to the Clump Mountain National Park, and can be accessed by travelling approximately 4.6km north of Mission Beach on the Bingil Bay Road.

Bicton Hill is the main feature of the Clump Point National Park. It is known for being one of the last remaining undisturbed lowland tropical rainforest habitats in Far North Queensland. It is home for many interesting and unusual rainforest plants and animals, in addition to providing a haven for the endangered southern cassowary. In the past, the hill was used as a lookout for the Djiru people and by the Cutten brothers during European settlement.

The walking track is a 3.9km return circuit with a moderate grade (allow 2 to 2.5 hours to complete). It circles around Bicton Hill’s exposed eastern side and opens up at the summit to give amazing views of the mainland, reef and surrounding islands.

For ease of access, the cache is located on the lower levels of this track. The GPS jumped around a bit, so the hint might help a bit. Feel free to make the climb to the summit and remember to bring lots of water and protection from the sun and heat. Parking is available however no rubbish bins are provided. Domestic animals are not allowed in the area so it may pay to leave the geodog at home. If you are lucky enough to come across a cassowary remember to be CASS-O-WARY - do not feed and view from a distance.

FIRST TO FIND goes to lejam who wrote: "Had a nice RDO today, went and saw somebody very close to this today so i decided to do it. I was surprised to see that nobody else had been here yet. Took: Troll TB. Left: Youth-week wristband. FTF NF-SL."

Have fun and happy geocaching
