Geocache Description:

Officially named "Perry's Banner Rock," Taachii Ishi, meaning "Two Rock," is a designated historical site commemorating Commodore Matthew C. Perry's visit to Lew Chew (Okinawa). The cache is an ammo can placed near this overlook

On May 26, 1853 Commodore Perry and his party entered Naha Port and organized a 12-member expedition team to explore the inland of mainland Okinawa and the east coast. Leaving Shuri Castle on May 30, the team traveled through Hanta Road, a route along the east coast, and entered Nakagusuku Village via Nishihara City. They continued their journey through Minami Uebaru, Kita Uebaru, Arakaki, and Nakagusuku Castle. As the team was passing through Arakaki, they took a short rest by a large, rugged rock that showed the magnificent beauty of the island's eastern and western coastlines. The expedition team then placed the American flag on the top of this rock to commemorate their conquest. They named it the "Banner Rock" and celebrated the moment with a gun salute. The cache is an ammo can placed near the overlook at this historic spot. An additional waypoint is included for a nearby parking area. From the parking area there is a nicely paved walkway up the hill. It is a nice little climb with great views. I wouldn't recommend parking at the golf course next to the paved walkway, because you have to scale the fence and may cause an international geocaching incident. The initial cache contents include some piratey treasure stuff, a couple of travel bugs, several geocoins (in their own geocoin box!), wooden nickels and an unactivated "FTF Geocoin" (in the bag with the log) for the initial cache crew. Enjoy...
Congrats to "Anti-muggler29" who swooped in at night for a FTF!!!
