Geocache Description:

You're looking for a slightly unusual container slightly bigger than a film can. Security Gentleman knows about the cache and will come out to encourage you to come in and see the art exhibits. He's harmless and just wants someone to talk to.

The cache is located at the Butler Institute of American Art.

The Butler's Trumbull branch, funded in part by Foundation Medici, focuses on important international artists whose works have profoundly influenced America, as well as exhibitions of works by contemporary master painters and sculptors. The museum's mission is to preserve and collect works of art in all media created by citizens of our country.

Conceived by several area businessmen to promote the arts on their home turf, the spare, modernist structure was designed by the late Thomas A. Schroth and completed in 1996. The new museum was sponsored by the Foundation Medici and thereafter annexed to the Butler. Visitors are greeted by several large Louise Nevelson sculptures, looming in the foyer; some are on loan from PACE Galleries in New York, others part of the Butler collection. Smaller bronzes by Dali perch above the reception desk, while monumental outdoor sculptures lurk on the grounds. Most of the rest of the Butler's floor space is taken up by two galleries, filled with light from windows that open onto a courtyard sculpture garden.

The Butler charges no admission fee at the main location or at its branch museums.
