Geocache Description:

A ramble around on dirt roads, trails and paths along the northern shore of the West Reservoir in Harwich.

West Reservoir Ramble: To reach the start: from Great Western Road turn south onto Bells Neck Road and go to the suggested parking area. Mark your car. Cross the road to the trailhead and head for the posted coordinates at stage one. Write down the letter and number on the marker and head for the "go to" coordinates. You will follow a variety of paths, sandy power line roads, embankments, wooded hillsides and shoreline paths as you travel an irregular one and a half mile loop. Along the way you will go down and around a few kettles (some dry, some wet), pass along the Cape Cod Rail Trail, and trace parts of the reservoir’s northern shore. Most of the terrain is level and easy but there are some wet spots, some steep ups and downs, and places that require good balance and careful footing. I suggest spending some time exploring the side trails that head close to the water. When you have all the letters and numbers, plug them in, and head for the cache.

. More than usual, the tree cover here makes GPSr reception variable and inconsistent. To make finding the stages easier be sure to bring the hints. The cache is a small lock&lock, has a log book and some small trade items. Bring some to swap if you want to trade. Choose a sunny day and enjoy the light off the water through the trees. . Hints indicate something unique about either the placement or the markers themselves. At the time they were placed, all of the micros were visible and in plain sight “from the right angle”. Perhaps some bending but no jumping is required. Please replace exactly as found.

Updated 9/30/25:   Each marker has a letter (A thru G) and a number. Substitute the number for the letter to solve for the cache location. Clever cachers may be able to deduce the location even if they can’t find all the stages. The cache is located at N 41 41.ABC W 70 0D.EFG The clue will help as well. See the maintenance logs for more details And it never hurts to review the gallery. Have Fun!
