Cache is located off the Miller River Rd. near Skykomish. Excellent
area to camp and winter snowshoe. Easy 1/2 mile walk or almost
drive by when the campground is open. You are looking for a 3x4
inch lok-n-lok.
While snow camping near by I wanted to get out and place some easy
snowshoe caches that would be accessable without any serious hike
or avalanche danger. This is a good area to test out your new
snowshoes, play in the snow or take a nice walk in the summer.
Miller River Group Campground is a seldom used camping spot, so
most of the time the gate will be locked. If the gate is open then
this will be almost a drive by. Campers may be nearby, so please
respect their space. Weekends during the summer might not be the
best time to go after this cache.
You'll need to take the Money Creek turn off from Hwy 2 and go 1
mile to a right turn on the Miller River Road. Follow this gravel
plowed road to the end at 3 miles and large turn around. Normal
winter snow will be about 2-3 ft. Heavy snow years like this year
the snow is 4-6 ft. deep. Find the gated Road Closed sign and
follow the road in and to the cache. Take a walk over to the river
and look for bald eagles. When placing the cache there were 4-5
hunting.
Excellent snowshoeing up the snow covered road and winter camping
nearby. Zero avalanche danger. The road continues 5 miles to the
end at the Dorothy Lake trailhead with more caches
beyond.
