When: Saturday, 8 March 2008, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm
Where: At the home of Team Zorgon 10 minutes west of
Hamilton. Listed coordinates are to the driveway. If coming from
the north you will have to pull left into the layby before turning
right into the driveway. Heaps of parking down past the house
through two gates behind the big shed.
What if it is raining? Plenty of verandas and a barn for shelter
so the event will be held rain or shine.
We have noticed that there have been a lot of logs recently by
new Waikato and Bay of Plenty cachers so this is an opportunity for
you to get to meet some of the other friendly locals, learn new
GPS/geocaching skills and exhange stories. It would also be great
to see cachers from further afield if you happen to be passing
by.
Definitely family friendly so don’t hesitate to bring the kids!
No dogs though please. There will be a real treasure hunt for the
youngsters plus some fun and GPS games for the cachers too (i.e.
wear caching clothes and gumboots/old shoes). As usual there will
be a table set up for travel bugs and coins to be discovered.
It is a potluck barbeque. Please bring meat plus a salad or
desert to share and something to sit on. There will be two
barbeques available to cook food.
Optional extra - a night kayak trip to the
Glowworm Paradise (GCW6KR) cache at Lake Karapiro following
this event. Indicate in your log if you are interested and if there
is sufficient interest then we will advise more details.
3 Mar 08 - Another update on the optional Kayak trip:
Pbslost has just advised that he now has an additional 12 kayaks
available for the event (single sit-on-top's). If you are
interested in one of these please let Zorgon know ASAP either by a
note on this page or by email.
24 Feb 08 - Further update on the optional Kayak trip:
Unfortuntely, due to the exceptional demand the double kayaks and
single sea kayaks or sit-on tops being offered for rent by either
pbslost and Quinella are now fully booked. All those people listed
below down to Baggers05 have their kayak bookings confirmed. If you
are on this list and no longer need a kayak could you please let me
know so that it can be freed up for someone else.
Pbslost does still have a bunch of "white water" kayaks
available but they need experienced paddlers as they "roll over"
quite easily. There is a commercial kayak hire place called the
"Boatshed Cafe" about 10 km or so from our kayaking venue
(www.theboatshed.net.nz). If you want to rent from them you will
need to contact them directly. Don't forget that you would also
need to transport your boatshed cafe kayak to the venue on the
night either on your roofrack or trailer.
9 Feb 08 - Update on the optional Kayak trip: There is
plenty of interest so we will be running this trip on the evening
of 8 March providing that the weather is favourable. For those of
you that don't have your own kayaks there is some extra good news.
A fellow geocacher, pbslost, lives at Lake Karapiro and runs an
adventure training business. He has kindly offered to supply us
with kayaks for $20 per person. He has 9 doubles, 5 single sea
kayaks, 20 "white water" boats for the brave (no white water on
this trip by the way). Paddles & lifejackets included in the
price. Pblost will transport the kayaks we need to the launch point
on a lakeside farm and will be joining us for the paddle!
It is important if you do want to rent one of these kayaks that
you let Zorgon know ASAP by email or clearly state in you log that
you want one and which type so that he can confirm a booking
A gear list (usual stuff like warm clothes, headlamp etc) and
instructions on where to meet will be emailed closer to the time to
those who indicate they want to go.
The following is still to be confirmed but is is likely that we
will be meeting at the Karapiro lakeside at about 7:45 pm and
returning at about 9:45 pm. The paddle is only about 20 min each
way. The rest of the time we will be on dry land
