Geocache Description:

This is a simple off-set multi-cache, one of a series that replaces the original Walks & Views Galore-ious Multi-cache that was positioned close to here. It takes you to some beautiful Wiltshire downland countryside with fantastic views and a lot of history.

Car parking for this cache is best at N51° 12. 074 W002° 07.800. There is room for several cars here but please don’t block the tracks. Also being a relatively remote place please take the usual security precautions.

The cache you are seeking is small, although slightly larger than the typical micro-cache; it’s within a camouflaged bag and contains the usual logbook plus some very small items.

You will walk close to the site of the Medieval Village of Middleton. The route, which takes advantage of the Imber Range Perimeter Path, the Wessex Ridgeway and Bridleways to the East of Warminster provides opportunities if you wish to extend your walk. You could visit more than one hill fort, Battlesbury Hill, Middle Hill and Scratchbury Hill. For more information about this area and the local hills, visit this webpage.

There will be no need to depart significantly from paths and tracks. These hills, all within a mile or so of the suggested parking place, have some of the most stunning views and countryside in the South of England and added to this there is a lot of history here and some of the most unspoilt chalk downlands around with the associated fauna and flora. This area in the summer has usually orchids by the thousand along with little blue butterflies, what a “glorious” sight! The area was also loved by Siegfried Sassoon, the First World War Poet, who lived very close by at Heytesbury House; he even wrote a poem about the area "On Scratchbury Camp” visit this webpage.

The complete walk is less than 1 mile and can be done in 40 minutes or less. Please be warned it involves a short but steep climb initially, so pushchairs and buggies are not advised. Depending on when you visit boots may be essential as it can get very muddy and slippery in places, please take great care.

At the above stated co-ordinates you will find a labelled item at ground level: look for EN and the 3 numbers that follow are ABC (i.e. EN ABC) The cache is to be found at:

N51° 1A.(C+C)5B W002° 07.C9(C+A)

Please make sure the cache is well hidden and secured when you replace it.
Above all, enjoy your visit.
