Is a seaside town located on the Irish Sea, with a population of roughly 35,000 including the suburbs of Kinmel Bay and Rhuddlan, in the county of Denbighshire, northeast Wales, at the mouth of the River Clwyd (Welsh: Afon Clwyd). Once an elegant Victorian resort, there was a large influx of people from Liverpool and Manchester after World War II. This had a huge impact on the town and surrounding area, affecting local culture and diminishing the prevalence of the Welsh language. The area had declined dramatically by 1990, but has since improved due to a series of regeneration projects.

Budget seaside family holidays in Wales don't get much better than Rhyl. Holiday makers have been coming here to Wales' holiday North coast for many years, and Rhyl pulls on both it's seaside history plus it's evolved with the times. (checkout the new Moments in Time Exhibition on the West Prom!) Its promenade stretches for 3 miles (5 km).

'Moments in Time'
Public Artist Stephen Broadbent has been involved with developing designs for Parc Drifft since 2002. 'Moments in Time' is a photographic project, celebrating Rhyl's rich and unique seaside history. The project uses historic and contemporary photographs of the people of Rhyl.
The photographic images have been put onto tiles that are embedded in the wall of the parc.

The refurbishment of Rhyl's famous West Promenade is now well under way; its transformation will be complete in the spring of 2007. The new multi-million pound park will recall the resort's glory days of the 19th and early 20th century, when the promenade was regarded as one of the finest in the country.
The design is inspired by the shapes and forms created by the drift action of the tide, with natural planting including maritime pine trees and grasses. Five inter-connecting walled gardens will be created, each having it's own focus, including an interactive water play area, open air theatre, mini golf, a play zone and a natural garden area.

Known as Sunny Rhyl
It is one of the most popular sea side resorts in Wales. Rhyl in the early nineteenth century was a small village. It is known as Sunny Rhyl because of its geographical position sheltered by the mountains of Snowdonia.

The town has six miles of golden sands stretching between the resorts of Rhyl and Prestatyn. The town is also one of the few remaining Wales and UK seaside resorts offering donkey rides on the beach. Rhyl is also famed for its summers being above average in respect of temperature.

The town has a pedestrianised shopping centre. The White Rose Centre was built in 1984 and is beautifully situated facing the promenade in the heart of the town. It also has a regular market days.

Rhyl also contains many brass bands, which entertain the towns many tourists, including the scout and guide band, the Rhyl Silver band, and the Salvation army band. The Rhyl Silver band was formed in 1878 by a local business man David Owen Jones.They have performed in such prestigious venues as The Royal Albert Hall and entertained Royalty in recent years.

There are a variety of pubs and bars of which have children's facilities and a lively promenade with plenty of bingo and amusement centres.

The Sea Life Centre features the first under water tunnel in Wales. Discover the dramatic Ocean Falls Cascade. Explore the dark icy waters of the ocean depths in the Sea at Night, where octopus and catfish lurk. It is home to more than 50 native species.

The Sun Centre is an indoor tropical water park, with white rollers to surf and daredevil waterslides.

Rhyl Sky Tower, is a 240ft high revolving structure with fantastic views of Rhyl and the scenery beyond. It is situated on the famous West Promenade of Rhyl, where developments include seaside gardens, mini golf, open air theatre and interactive play zones.

Rhyl in the early nineteenth century was a small village with a population of about 300. By the end of the mid 1830's it had become a fashionable watering place and many titled people took rooms for months at a time. Rhyl may boast modern facilities and attractions but at heart it is a very traditional seaside resort and has been welcoming visitors for over 150 years.
