Geocache Description:

Located in the Big Run Abandoned Mine Drainage Treatment System.

The Blackleggs Creek Watershed Association and Trout Nursery (Blackleggs) has been working for 20 years to improve the water quality of Blackleggs Creek. The entire watershed is severely impacted by Abandoned Mine Drainage, a legacy of unregulated coal mining. This geocache is located in the heart of the Big Run AMD Treatment Complex, which is comprised of several passive treatment systems working together to remove iron, aluminum, and acidity from discharges that enter Big Run, a tributary to Blackleggs Creek. In the coming months, the complex will be finished and can effectively rehabilitate 7 miles of additional trout stockable stream.

If you happen to visit during a weekday, you will most likely run into Art, the founder of this amazing organization. Introduce yourself and absorb the knowledge he has to share.
