A well know creek with a cache hidden nearby. The cache is guarded
by 2 giants.
This watershed covers 89 square miles of Clark County. Its land
uses are typical of a developing area: rural, residential,
commercial, forest andindustrial land. With a population of 87,000,
the watershed is the second most populated watershed in the county.
Between 1990 and 2004,annual population growth in the watershed was
4.9 percent. Human activities in the watershed have had numerous
impacts on the creek, including increased water temperature. Why is
increased water temperature a problem? If you have ever enjoyed a
hotbath, you know that warm water feels good and even benefits
health. However, the reason humans can enjoy warm water is that we
are warm-blooded, meaning we regulate our temperature internally.
Cold-blooded aquatic species, including threatened salmon, cannot
regulate internal temperature. Their bodytemperature is the same as
the surrounding air or water temperature. Each species has adapted
to a certain temperature range and when temperatures rise or fall
beyond this range they may be harmed or even killed. The county’s
Clean Water Program studied water temperature in the watershed to
determine the extent to which the creek and its tributariesare
suitable for aquatic life. The state agency in charge of setting
environmental regulations, Washington Department of Ecology, has
set 64ºF as the maximum temperature to protect streams with salmon.
Please help to do your part in protecting watershed. Get involved
in tree planting and help to reduce the negative impacts on our
water ways. Please enjoy the views this cache brings and be careful
for the nearby cliff.
Congratulations to Rontro for the FTF!
