Geocache Description:

My wife and I had wanted to put out another cache for quite some time. I wanted to put out a 12 step multi that took you from one side of Columbus and back and she wanted to put out a simple cache that spoke about one of her favorite subjects. We decided to compromise and decided on an eight step multi-cache that would keep you in downtown Columbus. Driving the entire multi-cache should be less than 5 miles with just under 100 yards of walking. If you wanted to walk the entire multi-cache it would take just under 4 miles start to finish and back to the car.

Log in the description if you drove or walked and how long it took you.

The FTF prize is a FTF travel bug and a new matchbox with a $5 bill inside. Good luck!

Our country was founded on the belief of religious freedom. I am awed to learn the history of Columbus and see that same belief reflected in the origin of Columbus as well as in its continued development. This multi-cache is designed to take you to these places of religious freedom. The Chattahoochee Promenade is an outdoor historical museum in downtown Columbus. It was dedicated July 4, 1976 to the citizens of our nation who have worked together for 200 years to keep our land free.

Within the promenade is a gazebo containing a replica of the Liberty Bell. If you look closely you will discover that the gazebo is also host to six plaques regarding our country’s beliefs of religious freedom. All of our freedoms are to be acknowledged and cherished, never to be
taken for granted.

Starting at the first coordinates, take the last two digits in the year that this site was made and add them
together. This will be AB.

Take the third letter in Mr. Witherspoon’s first name. Match this letter to the numbered position in the alphabet (a=1, b=2, c=3, etc). This number will be C.

In the “D” hundred years of our nation… Take the number of
“shafts of eternal light”, Add 4 and this will be E.

The next coordinate is N 32° 2C.AAB W 084° 5E.DCE

Waypoint #2
Take the date that this church was dedicated, the last two digits of the year is FG.

There is a grave site near this location, using the date of this man’s death. Add the first two digits of the year together, this is H.

Take the month of this man’s death, multiply by 2, this
is I.

The next coordinate is N 32° 2F.G35 W 084° 5H.I97

Waypoint #3
This church was damaged by fire and it was reopened in JKLM.

The next coordinate is N 32° 2K.JJ4 W 84° 5L.M79

Waypoint #4
Take the last 3 digits of the year that a small house was built here. This is NPQ.

Now, follow the cross to another sign. Using the second date on the sign, take the second digit, divide by 2, this will be R.

Take the last two digits and this will be ST.

The next coordinate is N 32° 2N.QPS W 84° 5T.PRT

Waypoint #5
Use N 32° 26.230 - W 84° 57.599 for the following.

Use the year that the former building on this site was erected and add this many thousands of a degree minute to the North coordinate.

Or as my wife would say - take the year that the former building on this site was erected, divide by 1000 and add this to the North coordinate.

Do the same for the West coordinate using the year that this stone was laid.

Waypoint #6
Take the last two digits of the year the cornerstone was laid. This is UV.

The number of people serving on the original Vestry = W.

The number of Chandeliers lighting the nave = X.

The next coordinate is N 32° 2W.UXX W 84° 5U.VWU

Waypoint #7
Take a close look at the doors near this place. These magnificently intricate doors were hand carved by slaves. This place also contains the second oldest pipe organ in Georgia.

At this point, I hope you kept notes – your gonna need them.

Take the last two digits of the year this place was organized and add them together – this is Y.

Take the year the central tower was added, add all of the digits together and do the same for each result until you have one digit, add 2 and this is Z.

The final coordinate is N 32°DW.IYW W 84° SH.ZXL
