With but a 24 hr. layover in Taiwan (enroute from Bali back home to
Seattle), fellow geocacher Haima (an otherwise utter geostranger)
welcomed me with open arms - inviting me to his home for the
night, and personally escorting me on a whirlwind geotour of
Taipei accompanied by his geopal apaopao and daughter Dorothy. The fun
included a quick dip in the sulphur baths near his mountain
home, lunch at Taipei 101 (the World's tallest building), as
well as grabbing no less than 9 geocaches before they dropped me
back at China Air (barely in the nick of time to make my
flight!)
In short, a most memorable geofling that attests to the kindness
and solidarity among goecachers 'round the globe. Many thanks dear
Haima, and to apaopao who agreed to maintain this little joint box
of geojoy. I only hope that one day I can return your kind
hospitality should you ever want to grab a few in the Emerald
City.

The Aborigine Culture Park is situated beside the
National Palace Museum, directly opposite the Sung Ye Museum of
Formosan Aborigines. The focal theme of the park is the reverence
which aboriginal peoples hold for nature. Thirteen stone-slab
sculptures stand in the entrance plaza, depicting the people of
Taiwan's nine surviving tribes in their traditional costumes. The
plaza is focused around a sun totem, symbolizing the aborigines'
reverence for the sun and all the rest of nature. |
