F.T.F...February 10,2008 - by tomison (1022 found)

From sometime during the 1940's to the 1970's, city maintenance worker Ora Wood patched the city streets of Orting with tar from the tar pot.
Ora would first build a wood fire in the bottom section to melt the tar and keep it hot.
He towed the tar pot with a city Jeep.
Ora was occasionally heard to complain about the constant bellow of hot black smoke from the smoke stack.
Patching city streets was not the tar pot's first use, but the wagon earlier history is unclear. Some say it was a World War II soup wagon used to feed troops. A few claim it was used in a nearby logging camp to feed loggers. More than likely, one section of the soup pot held soup and the other coffee, with each section originally covered with lids.
