Kerosene Creek (Bay of Plenty) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

fanfan-77: Sadly, after 7 years, 210 finds and 32 favourite points, I have decided to let this one go. I have been living in the area for 10 years, and the place is hardly recognizable from when I first started visiting this spot. Back then there were only 1-2 cars in the carpark and most visitors were locals. Now the locals have deserted the place as dozenz of tourists a day are taking over trashing the place, lighting fires, etc. Every time I visit now I get sad and depressed. I feel that bringing more people to this place via geocaching is not going to do it any good. I also feel that the safety of my cache will always be threatened by muggles and am not prepared to make trips every few months to replace it. Out of principle (or stubbornness?) I refuse to hide a Micro in these parts. Sorry... If anyone wants to adopt it and keep it going, I will pass the reigns on to you. :(

Geocache Description:

Kerosene Creek is between Rotarua and Taupo. Placed by sandancer in Jan 2008, adopted by fanfan-77 Dec 2010, original cache description below:

Bring your togs!!

You won't need them to find the cache but this is the most fabulous hot spring I have ever seen, a stream of hot water with a waterfall and bathing pool!

WARNING - As with all natural hot springs don't put your head under the water!

I still can't believe how beautiful this place is.

There is no signpost for Kerosene Creek from the main road, so watch your GPS. It's not a secret and the footpaths are maintained, but it is a gravel (metalled) road for about 2km before the car park.

You do have to cross the stream to get to the cache but it is at a narrow point that the average person will be able to step accross without getting wet.

From fanfan-77: Container Replaced January 2010 with one of similar size and shape as the original.
21/11/12 wet container temporarily replaced with a micro until I can find a suitable regular and camo for the area.
13/8/12 The micro is finally replaced by a 2Lt sistema and camo, about 3m away from the original cache location.
