Laughing Lady Traditional Cache

Anyone who ever paid a visit to War Memorial Amusement Park and experienced the thrill of riding “Over The Jumps” or any of the other rides that were located there will remember the one area of this fascinating place that held not the wonderful fun feelings associated with a magical place but one of fear and dread. How ironic that one of the most appealing places to be in the park, in front of that wondrous calliope with its drums drumming and its cymbals clanging would be situated right next to the spook house in front of which stood the infamous “Laughing Lady” who terrorized little kids as well as some adults for as long as anyone cares to remember. I remember seeing parents walk out into the street as they passed this place in order to keep their kids from crying. Almost any conversation that you strike up with any one who ever visited the midway involves some mention of this bigger then life lady who stood in a glass enclosure in front of the spook house and moved around life like laughing all the time and always gave the impression of jumping out of her box at anytime and making off with which ever unsuspecting onlooker happened to be standing in front of her when this happened. In 1991 when the War Memorial Park midway was dismantled the “Laughing Lady” was sold but local restaurateur Mark Abernathy has built an exact replica of her and she now resides in the lobby of his restaurant. She’s no longer in a box and she no longer laughs but I’m sure she’s probably just as freighting especially if you’re a little kid. Cache is a film canister placed with the permission of the property owner. I made it a pretty easy find because it is located in a high muggle area and the real find here is standing inside the restaurant.
