Geocache Description:

The above co-ordinates are for parking at Fliquet where you will find one of the many ancient defence towers built around Jersey’s beautiful coast. This Tower was built to guard the east coast which was always considered susceptible to attacks from France.

A typical Jersey design round tower, which over the years has had a section of the tower above the second floor removed and the lower portion given Ornamental Crenulations. The Tower overlooks the bay that is nowadays made up of pebbles and rocks; the quiet little cove is also overlooked by a 20th century Spanish style folly built beside the road.

In order to gain the full co-ordinates for the cache please answer the following questions that can be found at Fliquet:-

From May to September horses or dogs without leads are not allowed onto the Beach.
1. From what time? = AB:CD (24 Hr)
2. Until what time? = EF:GH (24 Hr).
3. In what decade was the tower first built? = JKLM
4. What decade was the tower finished? = NPQR

The cache is located at:
N: 49° (K+Q).(K-C)(F-J)(L+A)
W: 002° (MN).(Q-C)(K-N)(E+J+N)

You have the choice of two footpaths to take you to the cache, from Fliquet bay walk up the hill until you reach the signs for the footpaths, here you can take the left which is the old path or go straight ahead which is a new footpath that courtesy of the owners, takes you through their field and down some wooden steps – great views from the top though. Both footpaths are unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The small cache contains small trade items, log book, pencil and a generous FTF prize courtesy of the Mundy Family for providing us with our first cache to hide (a great 2nd prize, which we received at the Twelfth Night caching event for our poker skills). Please take care to replace the cache just as you’ve found it.

Refreshments are available from the cafe before returning to your car at Fliquet, in stead of taking the same route; you could go for a circular walk and return via the other path.

Public Transport users:
If you are relying on public transport, take the No. 1b bus to St. Catherine’s Bay, refer to website for the bus times (visit link) You will then need to take one of the two footpaths that will lead you to Fliquet bay in order to gain the co-ordinates for the cache.

The old footpath is a steep stony climb, originally, the path immediately divided into two paths (upper and lower) but the lower path is now unsafe, so take the upper (left-hand) path. Soon you’ll reach a bit of war-time history, two sets of anti-tank barriers which were erected by the German Occupation forces. They consist of lengths of railway track embedded vertically in the pathway and they are a relic of Jersey’s long defunct railways.

The new footpath is a steep climb up the newly created wooden steps situated opposite a picnic area. Once you reach the top there are fabulous views especially on a clear day when you can see the coast of France.

Both footpaths are unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. On your return back from Fliquet Bay in stead of taking the same route, you could go for a pleasant circular walk and return via the other path. PLEASE NOTE that gloves may be required during the spring/summer months.

Public transport users:
Old footpath = N49° 13.504 / W002° 01.284
New footpath = N49° 13.384 W002° 01.467
