A level walk along a fairly busy road. The footpath passes right by the cache which can be reached from the path. The Station is part of the Sterling Warehouse but it is behind glass near the hump where the road bridge used to be.
The Fife and Kinross Railway ran from Ladybank to Kinross, The first section from Ladybank to Strathmiglo was opened on the 6th June 1857the section between Strathmiglo and Milnathort was opened on the 9th September1858. . On the 6th June 1950 the line from Lady bank to Mawcarse Junction was closed to Passengers.
On the 29th January 1957 the Bridge on Station Road Auchtermuchty collapsed and the line from Ladybank to Auchtermuchty was closed to freight, on the 13th June 1964 Mawcarse station was closed to passengers on the 5th October1964 closed.
The bridge looks like it was just filled in,as the road climbs up a bank as if crossing a bridge, but no sign of the old bridge can be seen.
It was a easy line to build as there was no need for any major constructional work.
It was estimated that the 14 miles would cost about £55,000.
The cache is next to the footpath and there is no need to cross the busy road. I would advise a drive by before making a decision on how to approach this cache. Be careful
