Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Estero Bay State Buffer Preserve. The Aquatic Preserve was established in 1966 and consists primarily of the Estero River and its tributaries. The hike is about 1.8 miles round trip. Bring water and bug spray. Free parking may be found at N 26 26.520 W 081 50.170. As you walk the trails you will see scrubby flatwoods, pine flatwoods, salt marshes and salt flats bordering the mangroves. Please remain on marked trails. All plants and animals are protected within the preserve. Gopher tortoises, armadillos, fiddler crabs and eagles were sighted while placing this cache. Feral hogs, raccoons, and possums as well as many birds may be viewed along the trail. Parts of the trail may be under water during the rainy season. The cache is in an ammo can. Near the cache location is a mound from which you can view the surrounding area. An eagle was perched in a dead tree near here as we placed the cache. This cache has been placed with permission by the FDEP.
