One of many caches dedicated to Brown Shack Out Back Members or BSOB for short.
BSOB (Brown Shack Out Back) was the name of the production company that my friends and I formed when we were in our teens in the early 80's. We had a home video camera and made a few short films and needed a name for our production company. We Let the BSOB name fade until the Internet boom of the 90's when we resurrected it to label some of our new internet projects. Three of BSOB's founding members now GeoCache (Knightmare_Duck, Rycherox, and Mcwtlg (ElGee)) so we decided that we should create a series of BSOB caches in memory of those times. The cache names won't mean much to anyone outside of BSOB so don't count on them for clues but we'll explain what we can about their names in THE STORY section. Knightmare_Duck and Rycherox are West Virginia Geocachers, so their additions to the BSOB series will be there. ElGee (mcwtlg on Geocaching.com) is in Texas, so if you decide to do the whole series, plan to visit both States.
The Story: The BSOB Years: First Geek - This area was one of our on-location filming site for what some would say was BSOB finest films; First Geek. First Geek was a spoof on First Blood but instead of Rambo as the hero, ours was a calculator totting, computer geek, named Homer Worthwhip. Our adventure began with Worthwhip walking down this road trying to find his way to Computerland (a 1980's computer sell/repair shop, really) when he is arrested for being a nerd. To make a long story short, Worthwhip is arrested, escapes from jail, is hunted by police, and avoids capture with truly geek like devices. The only way he was finally convinced to surrender was by bring in his former math teacher and fellow geek who talks him down. Even before DVD's the BSOB crew offered multiple endings to First Geek, from being beamed up (star trek style) to being hit by a car (a filming accident, maybe :-) but our favorite was where Worthwhip was cornered and gives a compassionate speech where he tries to get the geeks of the world to unite, but this being the early 1980's he is gunned down by the crowd instead.
The Hide: The city of Clarksburg has provided a nice picnic table and trash can here along with a place to park. This used to be just a wide spot along the road. You are looking for a 3 X 5 X 5 Lock and Lock without camo. Why the city put a picnic table here I don't know but downtown Clarksburg is so cache poor I'll take what I can get.
