Geocache Description:

This cache is placed very close to the Nut Tree Family Park which is free to the public but the cache is not actually in the park it self. This is our first attempt at a hide in celebration of our 200th find. The cache is a small cylinder but large enough to rest traveling bugs and coins. Something special for the FTF.

Just a little history on how the Nut Tree started and became the growing area that it is today. In 1859 a pioneer named Sally Fox gave some walnuts to her uncle Josiah Allison. They both planted the walnuts along an emigrant trail where it grew into a shade tree that would soon bear protection to a family Fruit Stand which opened in 1949. Eventually expanding into a restaurant, railroad, and airport becoming a beloved landmark to Vacaville residents. Sadly, in 1996 the Nut Tree closed and sat a vacant lot . Ten years later, it re-opened new and improved. Both the air port and railroad stand but the restaurant has been torn down and an Olive Garden sits in its place. The original walnut tree was cut down in 1951. It is crazy to think, that this little part of Vacaville all started with a young girl and some walnuts.

Congratulations to the FTF: Binky Del Mar and htrowrod.
