A series of caches to encourage a walk along the seafront at Exmouth. Due to the very busy nature of the area it has been necessary to use micros, and stealth will be required to retrieve & return unseen! For this reason the hints are quite specific.
For a nice circular walk you can use the cliff path & Madeira/Plantation Walk which run parallel to the seafront.
“Gunfield Gardens, originally known as Gun Cliff, offer a beautiful vista over the seafront and estuary, towards the rolling hills of South Devon on the other side of the Channel."
"Due to Exmouth’s strategic location, there have been fortifications of one sort or another along it’s coastline since time immemorial. Gunfield gardens was probably one of several places chosen for military defences in the immediate area of the channel & estuary; and it being on a promontory covering the channel made this location an obvious choice for an artillery emplacement."
"The area was used for gun emplacements by the Roundheads during the siege of Exeter, part of the Civil War (1642 – 51), to assist control of the River Exe and stop the essential supply of gunpowder and food to the city of Exeter, where the Cavaliers were under siege.”
