Micro cache located in a median park in the center of Crystal City, TX
There is nothing to write with, so bring your own pen/pencil!
Crystal City, TX is the 'Spinach Capital of the World" a fact that I did not know before I came here.
It is also yet one more rural city in Texas that does not have a single geocache in it.
The most famous spinach person in the world, is of course "POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN".
Mr Segar, Popeye's creator had a statue of Popeye created for Crystal City back in 1937. It had been on display in this park until 2007 when on the city's 100th birthday, the city had a new statue commissioned for this park, the original statue is still on display however, in front of the city hall, just around the corner.
I could not find a suitable location in the statue's immediate vicinity to place a cache, but the old train caboose on display nearby, provides a plethora of hidy places.
The caboose is open 24 hours a day, year round, so getting into it is not a problem.
I would recommend however, that you not attempt to locate the cache while muggles are around.
The caboose, and this park are located on the old railroad right of way, however the tracks were removed about 10 years ago.
If you continue east on the main street (Veteran's Blvd or route 65) for about a mile, you will come to POPEYE Lake city park, located on the right.
There is a restaurant just behind the statue that serves very good TexMex food, I recommend it if you have time.
