In Maria Elend steht die huebsche kleine achteckige Wahlfahrtskapelle Zur Schmerzhaften Muttergottes aus dem 19. Jhdt.
Ueber den Ursprung der Kapelle gibt es einige verschiedene Sagen, die soweit ueber einstimmen, dass im17. Jhdt ein Halterbube ein Bild Maria Elend an eine Foehre angebracht hat, des weiterene Halterbild genannt. Zu Beginn des 18. Jhdts. Baute der Wirt Bekerti infolge eines Geluebdes dort eine kleine hoelzerne Kapelle. 1895 wurde anstatt des Wallfahrtskapellchens, Halterbild oder Maria Elend am Fohraberg ob Kuefarn aus freiwilligen Spenden vom Kremser Baumeister Utz die jetzige Kirche gebaut. Am 28. September 1895 wurde sie durch den Probst von Herzogenburg eingeweiht.
Die Kapelle ist zeitweise geoeffnet, im Inneren befindet sich der Altar mit einer Kopie des Gnadenbildes von Maria Elend bei Petronell, sowie zwei geschnitzte Holzfiguren um 1900.
Unweiht der Kapelle liegt das Gasthaus Osterhaus, der Ausblick erstreckt sich in beide Richtungen nach Krems und St. Poelten.
At Maria Elend you will find a pretty octagonal pilgrimage chapel dating back to the 19th century.
There are various legends as to the origins of the chapel, however they all agree that a shepherd nailed a picture of the Virgin Mary to a fir tree at the end of the 17th century. At the beginning of the 18th century the landlord Bekerti had a wooden chapel built on the same spot. In 1895, the current chapel was erected , supported by donations, by the builder Utz from Krems and consecrated on the 28th September 1895 by the provost of Herzogenburg.
The Chapel is open at times, you will find an icon of the Virgin Maria as well as 2 wooden statues dating from 1900.
Good views to Krems and towards St. Poelten, the restaurant Osterhaus is near by.
