Central Highlands Tourist Railway - Musk
The second of three caches placed
along the route of an old branch line linking the towns of
Daylesford and Carlsruhe.
The branch line operated between 1880
and 1978 and for much of that time the railway provided the only
link to the outside world. The line has been restored by volunteers
and every Sunday tourists can take a ride through the surrounding
Wombat State Forest on an old diesel rail motor. The journey takes
around 25 minutes each way and makes stops at Musk and Bullarto
stations where incidentally there are caches placed.
The second cache is placed at the
tiny Musk station.
The Musk platform was
constructed in 1889 and recently funding was approved to rebuild
the platform face. The town was originally known as Musk Creek but
shortened to Musk in 1881. It is now just a sleepy community
surrounded by rich farming country and forest industries, much the
same as when the operating line carried these products in
earlier times.
The cache is a 200ml
sistema with small logbook and small swaps only. The cache should
be accessible at all times excepting when the train pulls
in.
