4.23. Unarchiving a Geocache

The archiving of a geocache is intended to be a permanent status. That is why only community volunteer reviewers and Geocaching HQ staff have the capability to unarchive it. This is done only in rare circumstances and only if it meets the current Geocache Listing Guidelines.

If a geocache is archived by a reviewer or staff for lack of maintenance it will not be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

This is a very simple multi with GZ not far away, after a few very easy calculations! A sequel to 'To fly or not to fly.

If you have visited the “Red Devil’, Captain ‘Harry ‘ Butler’s Arvo Biplane, housed in it’s hanger at the northern entrance of the town of Minlaton on Yorke Peninsula, you are partly aware of the story of this home town lad !

Being born & raised on the small family farm at Koolywurtie, just north of Minlaton, John Henry Butler’s interest in flying was evident early when he caught & weighed his mother’s farm hens, measured their wing span & then released them watching with great interest.

His schooling was limited at the one teacher Koolywurtie school & he had no secondary education, but constructing model machines & later working on motor bikes, he developed his mechanical skills

The Cache Description of GCWY4D ‘To fly or not to fly?” & the booklet ‘The Harry Butler Story’ which I have included initially as a swap (or may be purchased for a minimal price at the local Visitor Information Centre), tell us of his many brilliant achievements during World War 1 which were later recognized by his award of the Air Force Cross.

With the end of the war, his homecoming to Minlaton, bringing the first air mail across water, from Adelaide, was a momentous occasion, celebrated with breath-taking displays of his aerobatics. During the next couple of years he delighted crowds with his dazzling displays at Australia’s First Aerial Derby in Adelaide & frequently was seen jetty jumping along the beaches from Marino to Outer Harbour!

Not being unaware of the risks associated with his flying, Harry was involved in a disastrous plane crash that was the beginning of the end for this aviation pioneer. Although he survived this accident & the ordeal of operations & plastic surgery that followed, it was to take its toll, but not before a presentation dinner at the Minlaton RSL was extended to him as a thanksgiving & welcome home after recovery.
