For MANY years the Leisure World GLOBE was located here. It was placed when they built the original Leisure World community. The 1963 globe, "a la 1964 New York World's Fair", was an icon of the community. No ATLAS man was built as they were sure it would last forever. They were wrong...

After many years of being on display, Cal Trans installed a Sound Wall next to the Globe and blocked the view to most all but a few local residents on the local side street. The residents organized and paid to move the Globe to within the Leisure World community. They built a display area and had it erected with a big community event.

The original builder of the Globe was erected by Rossmoor Corp. to market Leisure World properties. After moving the Globe, RRLH started court cases to regain ownership of the Globe. The court eventually ruled RRLH as the legal owner of the name Leisure World and the globe design. RRLH took immediate action to have the Globe removed and destroyed. They even posted guards during the teardown to ensure that NO residents could remove even the smallest little scrap. They took the metal away and got approximately $600.00 for the metal. An old landmark was gone forever...
