Geocache Description:

You are looking for a camouflaged decon container with room for a few small trade items.

This cache is hidden in celebration of MY FIRST 100 FINDS.
I present to you, "Slithers," a cache dedicated to our legless friends and all those who love them.

A lot of people don't seem to appreciate snakes, but I've always liked them. I have a degree in wildlife biology and herpetology, the study of reptiles and amphibians, was my favorite subject. But even before that, I have always enjoyed catching snakes and have kept many of them as pets. Thus, my geocaching name, "Snakelover."

So far, I haven't found any snakes at Caddo Park, but it undoubtedly holds its fair share. While you're there, PLEASE keep a look out for the dangerous Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, Crotalus atrox, like the one in the photo above. This particular fellow was coiled up next to the hot water heater inside the cabin at my deer lease in San Saba at about 5:30am one morning. After taking a shower, I heard what sounded like a broken pipe spewing water next to the water heater. Looking a little closer, I discovered that the sound was a rattlesnake rattling at me! Not something I normally want to encounter in my bath robe and house slippers! I put him in a bucket for safe keeping. When I returned from hunting later that morning, I took him to a more natural setting for a photo session. As you can see, he was ticked! Yes, I returned him to the wild unharmed... but away from the cabin!

Caddo Park is open from 6am until 10pm, so plan your visit accordingly. Per the Army Corps of Engineers website, this park is officially open from April 1st through September 30th. However, when I placed this cache in February 2008, the park was very much open.

The cache initially includes the beautiful kd&prettierhalf 4000 "Thanks for the Caches" geocoin and a few other trade items to get started. There is also a small prize for FTF.

Enjoy the hunt and... watch your step!

Congrats to unclebruce for FTF!!
