Geocache Description:

West Coast Cache Bash 2008 : Glendaruel 13th - 15 June 2008

After the resounding success of the 2007 Cache Bash at Loch Lomand the Worthies have decided to put on another caching extravaganza.

The venue this year will be at Glendaruel Caravan Park, this is a small family run site in the heart of the Cowal Peninsula offering facilities for camping, caravaning and they have a couple of rental caravans. Alternative accomodation in the form of a B&B is located at the rear of the caravan park, if you require any information on the B&B email me and I will get you the phone number.

Glendaruel is only 1.5 hours from the centre of Glasgow by road. Alternatively you can come by ferry to Dunoon from Gourock on the Western Ferries and then you pick up the B836 from Sandbank to the A886 which runs through Glendaruel.

There are currently 53 caches on the cowal peninsula and are listed in the bookmarks. There is alot of scope to place more caches for the event and I have a further 20-25 planned myself. Glendaruel is only a 15 minute drive from Colintraive where you can catch a ferry to The Isle of Bute which contains a further 30 caches the vast majority placed by Billy Twigger. These Caches are also included in the bookmark section.

The intention is to have a small marquee/gazebo up from the Friday till the Sunday with camp chairs and as many picnic benches as we can borrow from the caravan site. If any one can bring some camp chairs along that would help.

If the weather is particularly bad we could ask the caravan site nicely if we could use the games room for the BBQ/social.

Ok the intended format for the weekend will be......

For those arriving on the Friday:

Food wise the local hotel is currently up for sale and is not particularly good (but things may change with a new owner, I will keep an eye on it) alternatively there is The Colintraive Hotel a 10 minute drive or I wouldn't mind doing a chinese/indian/chippy run to Dunoon to have a meal and a social at the caravan site. It's probably best to do a vote on this once we know numbers.

On the Saturday:

After a days caching the intention is to have a BBQ & FFB's FB aiming to start about 6pm followed by a quiz, discovering/moving coins, TB's etc.

On the Sunday:

After recovering from a from a fun packed night there will be a chance to mop up some more caches or even a group event.

QUIZ CANCELLED

It has been decided to do away with the quiz on the Saturday night and replace it with a ‘Treasure Hunt’.

While the BBQ’s are being prepared coordinates will be posted for the location of a number of cache containers (size of container will be ‘FFB Specials’). Inside each container will be a number of raffle tickets which will correspond to prizes located back at the BBQ. As a bonus tokens will also be located in some of the containers, the cacher finding the most tokens will receive a bonus prize.

In addition a kids treasure hunt will take place around 8 pm.

Timetable of events are as follows:

5:00-5:30pm: Sign in and FFB'sFB...
5:30pm: Bar closed...and Treasure hunt begins
6:30pm: Onwards....Prizes, BBQ and FB.
8:00 pm: Kids treasure hunt within the campsite…..goodie bags
