Geocache Description:

One of a series of ‘WYCHBOLD’ caches. This one is a 35mm film container overlooked by the Droitwich BBC radio transmitters. We would advise not to park in the lane itself but in the road nearby. Be careful of any barbed wire - not by the cache but close by.
5-1-2015 - Suggest you 'go in' a little further up than where the path on the opposite side of the road ends.

During the ‘40s, the Droitwich transmitter sent vital messages to the French resistance in occupied Europe. Messages like : ”the rabbit is going down his hole”, “the door should be left open.”
In 1944 the date of the D Day landings was broadcast in code in part of a poem. Then the day before the 6 June landings, messages were sent to the resistance to carry out acts of sabotage. The following morning the allies landed on the beaches of Normandy...
So, in a small way, the Droitwich transmitter had helped towards the overall allied victory.
But secret documents recently released have shown that the Germans were using our own transmitter against us, either by placing an agent within the BBC or security services, or by supplying fake messages. During the D-Day landings a photo unit from the RAF found an old airfield and lots of photos of Droitwich transmitting station, but they were not taken from the air, they were taken from the ground…. obviously there was some sort of spy activity, which enabled photos to be taken..

Today they broadcast BBC Radio programmes.

A 4-mile round walk will take you to all the caches in this series, but if you want to find this, then park near the church up the road, it will be a shorter walk to grab the remaining 4 caches:
WYCHBOLD (St Mary)
WYCHBOLD (Single Track)
WYCHBOLD (No 84)
WYCHBOLD (No 129)
