William (Bill) McDermott operated a farm in the Waterworks Reserve area, where he lived until his death in 1967. You can read how he died (not in the 1967 bushfires!!) at the co-ordinates listed above. The listed location is near the actual spot where his farmhouse stood. Xorg remembers seeing the farm when he was a boy. It's such a sad story! and well worth reading through.
In order to find the cache, you will have to find the first name of Bill's dog. Then, using a system where A=1 and Z=26, add up the first three letters of the dog's first name, then add 9, and call this AA. Then add up the second three letters of the dog's first name, then add 2 and call this BB.
GZ is at:
S 42°54.7AA'
E147°17.0BB'
Best place to park is at the corner of Chimney Pot Hill and Huon Road. Then you can walk down a section of the beautiful and historic pipeline track.
The top of Bill's hill is a great place to have a picnic (no facilities though!) Lovely view. Also, while you are there, walk to the closest Hydro pylon - just below this is a large sandstone rock where you can sit and take in some even more spectacular views.
