Cache placed at Christiania Spigerverk / Cache plassert ved Christiania Spigerverk.
This cache is placed close to the current main office of Christiania Spigerverk, a factory producing assorted steel fasteners.
The original company was founded in 1853 and was active until 1989. It was one of the very few heavy industry factories in Oslo, and during its most active period in the 1950s it covered most of the Nydalen valley and employed several thousand workers.
In the 1980s the company went into a period of recession and 1989 most of the heavy production (steel mills, melting furnaces etc.) was closed down. This freed up the area for other purposes, the result of which can be seen in the current Nydalsbyen ("Nydalen city").
In 1993 the old company name was revitalized, and production of steel fasteners is still big business in Nydalen.
Update: September 24th 2010 the factory in Nydalen was closed down, and production of fasteners was moved to Poland. The area is now under development and a lot of theold buildings have been torn down.
