Geocache Description:

I’m “Hangtown Red,” a mysterious woman of legend in these parts. If you want to say hello, you’ll have to embark on a search for my signature color. If you’re good, we might just see each other soon. What do you think about that? [;)]

Start at the site of my old homestead east of "Hangtown." The town name came from vigilante justice meted out as hangings from a giant oak tree on the main street, beginning in 1849.

When the homestead fell apart from age, I abandoned it and walked a few feet to the nearby rail line, hitching a ride into town and beyond to western El Dorado County. If you visit the site today, you'll find a stash of maps I left behind. The map will lead you through the historic district of "Hangtown," gathering clues that will let you find me.

When you find "Red," you'll find me hanging around nearby, just to the west. Please respect Red's resting place by visiting only in daylight and walking softly.
