Geocache Description:

small cache on Redcar beach. Lots of road side parking nearby on the Coast Road next to the stray . Cache has moved down the beach so enjoy a short stroll along the prom or sand. There are some steps down onto the beach, difficulty level is due to an excess of muggles, new location may at times be wet.

Please bring a pencil/pen as no room in cache.

The beach stretches approx 8 miles from the South Gare along to Saltburn. Historically there was significantly more sand on the beach, over time this has been moved by the sea, exposing an increasing amount of rocks.

The main role of the Groynes that give the cache its name, is to reduce the impact of longshore drift, to keep the sand on the beach thereby lessening the risk of further coastal erosion.

The beach itself is used by a multitude of people especially popular for dog walkers, joggers and us for playing football.

The beach has even seen a world speed record attempt by Donald Campbell in 1922 and more recently in 2006 was transformed into Dunkirk 1940 for the filming of Atonement.

Cache is a small tube, hopefully blended into the environment. It will be interesting to see if my contraption stands up to the local weather !

The environment agency have been busy replacing the flood defences.
This is now complete

The Environment Agency actually referenced that would will be installing a cache themselves, however this never appeared.

They refurbished the Groynes which made the cache placement challenging!.
