Geocache Description:

Here is a cache just in time for Valentine's Day, when issues of the heart are the first priority.

The Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz traveled all the way to Oz to find a heart, Neil Young sang about a Heart of Gold, and there are many other phrases in our language referring to hearts in some way; Heartbreak Hill, Achy Breaky Heart, Heartache, Sweetheart, Heart to Heart, Heart and Soul, Hearts (card game), Heart (music group), From the Heart, Heartfelt, and Lionhearted. The normal human heart contracts approximately 70 times every minute, and it pumps oxygen throughout your body. Most people ignore their heart until a medical issue arises, yet the proper functioning of the human heart is essential to geocachers and muggles alike.

Here are a few heart facts about Heart Disease from the 2008 update of the American Heart Association.
1. Approximately 106 million Americans, age 20 or older, have total blood cholesterol levels greater than 200 mg/dl. High levels of blood cholesterol are correlated with coronary heart disease.
2. High Density Lipoprotein, HDL, or "good cholesterol" levels less than 40 mg/dl are also associated with a higher risk of coronary heart disease.
3. Among non-Hispanic, white Americans, age 20 or older, 26.2% of men and 8.8% of women have HDL levels lower than 40 mg/dl.
4. High blood pressure is found in of 49% American men and 55% of American women aged 55-64.
4. The relative risk of coronary heart disease associated with physical inactivity ranges from 1.5 - 2.4, an increase in risk comparable to that for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or cigarette smoking.

For more facts about Heart disease browse to the American Heart Association website at www.americanheart.org, and do your part to maintain a healthy heart; exercise, stop smoking, check your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and consult with your doctor.

This cache is a regular sized container hidden near the office of the local branch of the American Heart Association. It is filled with theme-related swag that would be great for the kids or someone you love on Valentine's Day or any other day as well. Parking is nearby but be careful of muggles during the work week. You will encounter a few thorny branches along the way, also.
