Here's a cache for Blackrod station. To the untrained eye it may appear that this station is little more than a couple of shelters and a bridge for a minor halt. However once it was so much more, it was a major junction. Few stations especially of this size can boast of a web page, Blackrod has one . It tells you all about the history of the station, one interesting thing that I learned was the obvious sign that it was once something more significant is the large building across the platform, once a locomotive goods shed.
The funny thing is despite the name, its actually nearer to Horwich than to Blackrod. When it was opened Horwich already had a station , now thats gone. There is station called Horwich Parkway which is quite a way from Horwich and Blackrod. Confused? I know I am!
Anyway apart from when a train is due the station is very quiet so please use stealth and wait for the muggles to get on the train. If you have some time to kill have a pint in the Ridgeway next door. A very nice pub!
