On a recent visit to Toowoomba I decided to go for my usual walk from Dad’s place and I walked past “The Rocket” in Lion’s Park. This piece of Playground equipment has changed a bit over the years. Forty years ago I was able to climb up the internal ladder to the top. Looking at it I had a “Wonder Years” moment and it brought back memories of a boy’s club I was in called “The Space Pilot’s Club” which used to meet on Friday Night. One of the things we did was build model rockets which we launched several times a year in a paddock out on Hume Street. As I was walking back to Dad’s, wondering what became of this club, I smiled when I read a church billboard which stated that The Space Pilots Club will be meeting at 6 o’clock here every Friday. Anyway, a big salute to the current leaders and members of this club and may your rockets continue to fly straight and high over Toowoomba.
