Do you like works of art? If you do you might find this
fascinating. I was browsing the art stores in Sarasota and I found
a painting of the Tower of Babel by Pieter Brueghel circa 1563.
Upon close inspection I could see this script on the stone base of
the tower.
When I returned home, I decided to do some research about the
artwork and found the following:
The Tower of Babel is a structure featured in chapter 11 of the
Book of Genesis, an enormous tower intended as the crowning
achievement of the city of Babilu, the Akkadian name for Babylon.
Babel was a city that united humanity, all speaking a single
language and migrating from the east. It was the home city of the
great king Nimrod, and the first city to be built after the Great
Flood. The people decided their city should have a tower so immense
that it would have its top in the heavens.
But I could not find an ancient language that resembles the
script. To my eye it looks somewhat like Hebrew or Arabic, but I
just can’t make sense of what’s on this babel stone. If you get a
brilliant idea, or even better, you know someone who’s into the
language arts, perhaps they can help decipher the message.
Good luck with your endeavor.
