I’m moving to Northern Arkansas so I will no longer be able to maintain my caches here in the Central and Southern parts of the State. I want to thank all the property owners and/or land managers for allowing me to place these. I’m very proud of our State and glad I have been a small part in showing off it’s parks, trails, small towns and backroads.
I hope everyone has enjoyed all the hunts - - and the 244 total finds.

Geocache Description:

Displayed here at the edge of Redfield’s River Road is the original Redfield United Methodist Church’s C. S. Bell #26.

History of the Bell: Located in only a frame building near the B & O Railroad Depot of Hillsboro, Ohio, Charles Singleton Bell opened his foundry January 7, 1858 with only two employees and a weekly payroll of $7.00. Production of bells began in 1875 with app. 1,000 per year and increased to over 20,000 bells per year by 1890. The bells were divided into two classes, farm bells weighing from 40 to 100 pounds each, and school and church bells known as "steel alloy bells" weighing from 150 to 1,000 pounds. Displayed here is a #26 sized steel alloy school bell.The school bells were #24 - #26 and were built to have a tone that was different from the church bells that were sized #30 - #48. My mother and one of her sisters helped ring this bell back in 1935 but we are still working on exactly when and how the church got the bell.
History of the Church: The Redfield United Methodist Church was established in 1883, and being a cornerstone of the fledgling town of Redfield that was quickly expanding around the railroad built through town, this church showed only community concern and no religious bias as they graciously allowed the Church of Christ members, the Missionary Baptist Church members, and the Lutheran Church members to hold their services in the building until they could get buildings of their own to worship in.
