Geocache Description:

As an El Dorado County native, and now an active geocacher, I've visited or found many Pioneer cemeteries here and in the surrounding counties. The Clarksville (Old Mormon Tavern) cemetery is one of those, but it's not accessible to the public. However, recent construction adjacent to the south edge of the cemetery now allows you to get close enough to glimpse this historical site.

Among the notable pioneers buried here are one of the brothers for which Clarksville is named, and Samuel Kyburz, who came to California with his parents in 1846. An excellent history of this cemetery is available online, written by Beth Knowles Pany.

When visiting these sites, as always, please tread lightly and respectfully.

The cache is a waterproof match container.
