Dieser Earth-Cache ist der größten, aktiven Wanderdüne
Binnendeutschlands auf dem Truppenübungsplatz Jüterbog bei Forst
Zinna gewidmet.
Diese Düne hier im Naturpark
Nuthe-Nieplitz ist die größte der aktiven Wanderdünen im deutschen
Binnenland. Auf dem ehemaligen sowjetischen Truppenübungsplatz, des
Naturschutzgebietes Forst Zinna Jüterbog-Keilberg, wurde die Düne
durch Waldbrände und der militärischen Nutzung wieder reaktiviert
und ist zur Zeit noch aktiv. Diese Wanderdüne befindet sich in den
Sandheiden des Truppenübungsplatzes Jüterbog, etwa 5,5km
südwestlich von Luckenwalde.
Auf mehreren Militärübungsplätzen,
in Brandenburg, existieren solche vegetationslose Flugsandfelder
(sogen. "Wüsten"), meist mit Jungdünenbildungen, aber auch wieder
aktiv gewordene Altdünen mit beweglichen Sandmassen. Diese Flächen
sind oft von beträchtlicher Größe und für den Naturschutz von
außerordentlichem Wert.
Binnendünen mit noch offenen
Abschnitten (Trockenrasen, Flugsande) gehören nach geltendem
Naturschutzrecht zu den besonders wertvollen und geschützten
Lebensräumen. Da sie offenbar als vernichtet gelten, tauchen
binnenländische Wanderdünen in den Naturschutzgesetzen namentlich
gar nicht mehr auf.
Die Wanderdüne nimmt eine Fläche von
ca. 9 ha ein . In der Ost-West-Erstreckung ist sie etwa 825m lang.
Ihre Breite schwankt zwischen 80 und 225m . Sie steigt von Westen
wie eine Pultscholle aus der Heidelandschaft der Talsandebene (58m
NN) unter Plateaubildung linear bis zu ihrer steilen,
sandschüttenden Stirn im Osten auf eine Höhe von etwa 7 bis 8m
an.
Die Düne ist eine nahezu
vegetationsfreie Flugsandmasse, die im östlichen Bereich einer
mindestens 1500 ha großen Haarginster- und
Flechten-Zwergstrauchheide liegt. In weniger windexponierten Lagen
der Flanken ist eine spärliche Pioniervegetation aus
Haarmützenmoos, Sandsegge, aus Initialstadien von Silbergrasfluren
und einzelnen Zwergsträuchem vom Heidekraut zu finden . Diese
Vegetation ist nicht von Dauer, denn sie wird, wie auch die
wenigen, kleinwüchsigen Sandbirken auf dem Plateaurand vor der
Stirn, immer wieder von Sand überweht und regelrecht verschüttet
.
Die Wanderdüne auf dem
Truppenübungsplatz Jüterbog ist ein geologisches Naturdenkmal
ersten Ranges. Sie gehört zweifellos zu den wertvollsten Dünen in
Deutschland. Der Truppenübungsplatz Jüterbog gehört somit aus
Naturschutzsicht mit zu den ökologisch wertvollsten
Landschaftsteilen in Brandenburg.

This Earth Cache is dedicated to the largest active wandering sand
dune in Germany, located on a former military training area between
Jüterbog and Forst Zinna.
This dune, which is part of the
nature reserve Nuthe-Nieplitz, is the largest one of all active
wandering dunes within Germany's inland. Due to military activities
and forest fires on that former Soviet-Russian military training
area, this dune was reactivated as a wandering dune.
The location of the described dune is within the sand heaths of
that military training area 'Jüterbog', approximately 5.5km
southwest of Luckenwalde.
Such vegetationless sanddrift fields
(also called deserts) exist on several military training areas in
the state Brandenburg. You will find them mostly with young or
older reactivated wandering dunes with lots of moveable sand. These
areas are very often quite large and have got an important value to
the nature conservation.
Inland dunes with open parts
(sanddrift, dry grass) belong to especially valuable and protected
natural habitats after actual nature protection law. Obviously
wandering dunes are that seldom and seemed to be not exiting
anymore, that this kind of dunes is not mentioned within actual
nature protection law.
The wandering dune near Luckenwalde
covers an area of 9 ha. From West to East it measures 825m and its
width fluctuates between 80m and 225m. In the West it raises linear
like a console block with plateaus from the moorland of that
sandplain (58m height above sea-level) to a steep sand pouring
front in the east at a height of 7 to 8 meters.
You will hardly find any vegetation
on this sanddrift masses. But it lies in a 1500h large
dwarf-shrub-heath with lots of lichen and hairy greenweed. In less
wind exposed sides of the dune there is a sparely vegetation
consisting of moss, sand sedge and initial states of whitish
hair-grass and dwarf-shrubs of the heather. All this little
vegetation is not lasting long, because it will be covered again
and again with sand from the front due to the wind there. The same
also happens to the little birch trees at the border of the
plateau.
The wandering dune on the military
training area „Jüterbog“ is a really great geological monument. It
is one of the most valuable dunes in whole Germany. That's why this
area belongs to the most valuable nature regions in Brandenburg in
an ecological point of view.
