Geocache Description:

A cache suitable for the everyday average cacher (no extreme athletes required for this one). A very easy walk through a well maintained 'bush' area along a clearly marked and well maintained track. Unless there has been very heavy recent rain there should be no need to get wet or muddy.

An arboretum is quite simply a collection of trees. Related collections include a fruticetum (from the Latin frutex, meaning shrub), and a viticetum, a collection of vines. More commonly today, an arboretum is known as a botanical garden.
The Taitua Arboretum covers 20 hectares of trees and open pasture with 2.3 kilometres of easy grade walkways.
In 1997 the Taitua Arboretum was gifted to the Hamilton City Council by John and Bunny Mortimer to ensure its sound management and continued development for the benefit of the community.
The Mortimers began planting trees at Taitua in 1973.
Today there are more than 1500 species of idigenous and exotic trees and shrubs.
The overall collection of trees provides a mix of open and wooded areas and contains unusual and rare species of trees and shrubs growing in a variety of soil types and terrains.
The Hamilton City Council continues the vision of the Mortimers and is continuing in developing the Arboretum as a recreational and educational assett for the inspiration and enjoyment of the community.
