JustAlan: Time to put this one to bed. It's had a good run, and the container is now letting in water. Thanks to all who visited.

Geocache Description:

Mickleover Manor, on the corner of Ladybank Road and Etwall Road in Mickleover, lies behind a long wall, and has a small public grassed area with a selection of mature trees in front of the buildings.

The manor was once the home of the Newton family who for many generations were members of Parliament and Mayors of Derby. The house (also known as The Woodlands) was built in neo-jacobean style for the Newton family by (Henry?) Duesbury in 1849. When the Newton family left after the first world war, the manor was briefly occupied by Sir Frederick and Lady Inglefield. It was then let out as a private school for a few years and later aquired by the local health authority and used as a hospital for the elderly. The hospital closed in 1989 and the property stood dormant for a few years before 'executive type' homes were built on its gardens and the main house converted into apartments.

The cache lies outside the main wall of the property.

PLEASE be careful with children near this cache, as it is near a busy roundabout. There is already damage to the wall about 70 metres away, where a car (not for the first time) has failed to clear the roundabout. The cache is well away from this danger spot however.

The cache container is a black screw type plastic tube 8.5cm long and 0.75 inches in diameter (note the subtle mix of metric and imperial units used to placate both sets of followers and to confuse the majority). It contains a log book and pencil, with no room for swaps or coins unfortunately.

When replacing the log in the container, it is easier to roll up the log and place it in the inner container before reassembling the tube. Trust me on this one.
