The Fairborn grain tower has a lot of history and is VERY visible from the tree. In recent memory, the non-concrete part structure endured extensive damage back in January of 2002. The flames were visible for miles around, including from my school. My gym teacher was wary of taking us outside (it was unseasonably warm that week) that day because she thought that it was part of Cemex that was engulfed and was emitting very harmful smoke but we went out anyway since the winds were taking the smoke toward Rona Hills (in a typical summer, the grass in Fairborn every now and then has orang "stuff" that rubs off onto shoes and bare feet. It is beleived, at least in my neighborhood that is is from the Cement company but since Cemex took over operation, it hasn't been appearing. Hmmm...) When I came home that day, Rona Hills was surrounded by the smoke from it. You could barely see! All the smoldering mess just stayed there for months. I do have an interesting twist that no one has heard. I believe that I have the LAST photo taken of it; I took it the day before. My parents think through my actions, I am psychic sometimes. Now WHY would ANYONE take a picture of that? You may be asking this. Or maybe not. Either way, we had a projec in art class...Draw aliens in Fairborn. Natually I procrastinated to the day before when my favorite team, the Steelers were playing for a spot in the Super Bowl, they lost to the Patriots I believe. I chose the grain tower so instead of sitting there and drawing it, I took a Polaraoid Instant picture of it to use. That was Sunday...the fire was Monday. Weird huh?
Here is the infamous picture:
ORIGINAL HIDE DESCRIPTION: EASY FTF OPPORTUNITY ALERT (that means you ghs and PZDude, since it IS a Fairborn hide). Go up that tree. Bring something to get to the first branch. I was able to do it without a step up, but I am young...there are some cachers out there who aren't teens anymore! lol Once up on the branches, you can easily navigate. Bring the kids! Make it an event! I would say practice stealth but you have to climb a TREE in the middle of a grassy ISLAND. DOn't worry about traffic on Elm...I would park there, along the street, if you aren't biking.
