This is a lovely new woodland area, planted for the millennium, with great views of the Lake District fells, down to Arnside, Grange and beyond. The route can incorporate a small navigation exercise which children and adults can have a go at. Good luck!
Start Point: Footpath to the Fellside Wood. Departing from Bridge End, Old Hutton, Kendal, LA8 ONH. SD 565 884
Pass to the left of the white house and cross three stiles to begin the trail.
Orienteering Route (nb, not adjusted for magnetic variation)
Point 1 From the stile, 154° for 34m (highly charged)
Point 2 230° for 66m to the fence post
Point 3 286° for 147m to the thorns between two gorses
Point 4 210° for 29m to find a marked stick beyond the stile
Point 5 280° for 51m to the small post
Point 6 300° for 41m to find a stone (this is the hard one)
Point 7 205° for 80m to a welcome to the woods beyond the gap in the wall
Point 8 272° for 30m to a marked pole
Point 9 180° for 48m to a sapling
Point 10 270° for 88m to sapling
Point 11 126° for 80m to a sapling. The cache is at SD 5613 8815 7m due east from the final sapling.
